Big News

January 13, 2016  //  Health

Hi loves! I hope your week is off to a great start! I have so enjoyed being home the last few days and re-establishing a bit of routine. I’ve gotten some great workouts and have been cooking lots of healthy delicious meals at home, which is something I always miss when I’m away. I also started working from my beautiful new office space this week, which has been SO beneficial for my work/life balance. I am so grateful to have this little spot that’s all mine to create and focus without any distractions or interruptions. I’ve recently made some big changes (more on that below) to make blogging, launching my YouTube channel, and health consulting my main focus this year so I can bring you guys the content you want to see and dedicate more of my attention to Blawnde. A big issue I was having before having this separate office space, was never knowing when to shut off. I didn’t understand how to separate my work and home life. I would be answering e-mails and interviews at midnight in bed because there was just no line of distinction to power down. Now I have a defined boundary – work is there and home is here. When I leave my office space, I am in home life mode and I think it’s a much healthier arrangement.

NOW, where I left off in my last post. SB21Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset!!!! Forbes released their 2016 30 Under 30 List and I am so beyond honored to be included. The pic above is from the Miami airport on the way home from St. Barths when I was finally able to get my hands on a copy! I can’t even begin to describe how surreal and humbling it is to be amongst such an incredible group of young entrepreneurial spirits that are following their dreams and changing the world. And I can’t explain how grateful I feel that people believe in me. We’ve all felt at times in our lives we aren’t going to make it, we aren’t good enough, etc. etc. and to have this kind of acknowledgment and the belief in my capabilities is something that I will never take for granted. I can’t thank Forbes, you guys, and everyone else in my life that listens to my crazy ideas, invests their time in me, and wants me to succeed, enough for caring about me and believing in me. Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be here 5 years ago when I was a law school dropout with nothing but a passion for health and no idea what was next. I have gone through so many ups and downs, good times and bad, and many sleepless nights not sure how everything would all work out. You never know where your life will take you, and taking a leap of faith into the unknown can be scary as hell. But more than anything, I am so so grateful that I did because it led me to where I am now and I wouldn’t be the same person and my life would look completely different had I accepted my circumstances on a path in which I was unhappy several years ago. My advice to any of you who may be unhappy, unfulfilled, or uninspired by your life, is to make a change. Don’t wait, don’t doubt, and don’t fear the unknown. It can’t be any scarier that what you do know, which is that you aren’t living the life you want to be living. To me, that’s the worst of all.

That said, I have some news to share with you. As you know, it is extremely important to me to believe in what I’m doing and be happy, inspired, and fulfilled. If I am investing my time and heart into something, I’ve got to have passion for it and it has to be for love. When things aren’t right for me or a situation isn’t correct, I will not accept it, and I will make a change. At the end of the day, I have to be true to myself and stand up for what I believe is right despite the discomfort involved in doing so. I have recently made the decision to step away from Suja as an active member. This was obviously a very difficult decision for me, and not something that happened overnight. There were lots of reasons I came to this decision, but a couple of them were big enough that I knew I could no longer move forward with my role at Suja. Companies change as they get bigger and lots of personalities become involved. There were things that I loved at the beginning of the company that became lost. There were personalities that changed and dynamics became different. Egos grew. There were things that just didn’t feel good anymore. When that happened I had to ask myself what was really important to me and in my life. And that answer came very quickly and easily – passion. Passion for what I’m doing, and passion for my life and the way I live it every day. And integrity. I have never been someone able to accept circumstances that are simply unacceptable to me, even if that’s the easier way to go. Additionally, I have changed, grown, and evolved. I have so many new ideas and a deep itch to create something new and contribute something fresh to the world that challenges and excites me (and hopefully excites you guys too!). With the momentum I’ve had the last couple of years, the timing feels right to dive full force into the creation of a new brand that I can’t wait to develop and introduce. So I made the decision to move forward in 2016 full of passion into the next phase that feels exhilarating, exciting, and so right for me. A big part of this will be much more focus on the blog this year, the launch of my YouTube channel next month, and the creation of this next brand.

I will share more with you guys in the coming weeks and months as things settle out about my experience, how I came to this decision, and what I’ve learned in the last few years. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and how much Suja has enriched my life. It began from a passion for health, nutrition, and helping people, and I will always have that within me. I am so excited to take that passion into a new project and begin a new journey, carrying with me the lessons I’ve learned.

I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for being part of my life, sharing in my growth, and inspiring me on a daily basis. Your endless support and kindness has been the best part of starting this little blog 2 years ago. I can’t wait to bring you along on the next adventure!

And before I go, I’m going to answer a quick question a lot of you had about this charcoal lipstick I posted on Instagram a couple days ago:

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

It’s “Punked” by Smashbox, and I got it at Sephora where it appears sold out now, but you can get it now here! It has a super matte finish, which is perfect and bold for nighttime, but for day to make it more wearable, I topped it with this gloss. Whenever you have a lip color that is a little out there or a tad shocking, just top it with a neutral gloss and it will instantly soften the harshness and make you feel more comfortable wearing it. This is my favorite gloss over bold colors because it has no pigment to alter the color of the lipstick and it is truly a glossy gloss. I feel like a lot of “glosses” don’t have that old school lip gloss glossiness anymore (know what I mean? I’m thinking 8th grade Loreal clear gloss tube – the real deal), but this one totally does.

And now I have a question for you: What do you want to see on YouTube and/or blog from me in 2016? Feel free to get specific!

Annie, major congratulations again on the well-deserved Forbes list spot – can’t even express how much inspiration and good things you bring the the business world and to people in general. I 100% support your new direction with business matters; and I’m SO glad to read that you’re able to have a healthier work/home balance – so important that you feel your best and aren’t stressed! As for the upcoming YouTube channel and blog posts = I say keep doing what you want; but I request more health/wellness, fitness, fashion, travel posts, of course 🙂

Cheers to you, dear Annie! X

  • FT

Wow, Annie! What a great post! I’m grateful that I found you through Suja, but I completely respect and honor your decision to move in a different direction this year. You have always been insistent on the importance of following your gut and maybe going against what is easy and expected if you truly want something greater and I so admire you for living your truth! I have no doubt you will continue to do great things both personally and professionally and I am excited to follow along through this blog and however else your brand expands in the future! In terms of the youtube channel, I would love some recipes/cooking tutorials and some hair/makeup tutorials too! And of course, fitness tips and routine ideas/moves would be great too! Can’t wait to see what comes next for you and congrats on this exciting new chapter!

  • Kat Motl Meeker

Congrats on Forbes!!! That is so exciting Annie. I am so happy for you as you step into your next adventure! It’s inspiring to see your dedication and passion in all things in life. I think sometimes both circumstances change and we change but that doesn’t necessarily mean something is ‘bad’ or ‘wasn’t good’ – it’s just not a good fit for us anymore (like dietary change). I just signed up for the Institute of Integrative Nutrition course because I found that while I don’t hate my current job / career, it is not inspiring me or fulfilling me the way I want it to. I’m not leaving right away but I’m definitely taking steps in that direction. I have never been so excited work-wise as I am to pursue a health related career, whatever it may become. Watching your success and seeing you create the life you want definitely inspired me to do the same.

I would love to see hair and makeup tutorials on the You Tube channel. Also – one of my personal struggles is watching people close to me (like friends and family) make horrible health / lifestyle choices or not fully understand “healthy” (for example, skipping a teaspoon of sugar in coffee but then chowing down on noodles, bread and potatoes because the doctor said no sugar). How do you educate people close to you without cramming nutrition facts down their throat? Any advice on how to deal in situations where a friend / family makes food specifically for you but totally misses (like vegetarian pizza when you can’t eat gluten or dairy), without offending them or making the situation uncomfortable? I know you don’t have kids, but I’m always looking for fast / simple / healthy meal ideas to feed my intermittently picky 4-year-old (and also ways to keep all the crap food away from her when she’s at school or out or somewhere I don’t have control).

I can’t wait to see what you make happen in 2016! I love love love the way Blawnde has grown and can’t wait to see what’s next. XO

  • Alexandria

So excited for you!!!!!! Also I’m so obsessed with this entire post. “It can’t be any scarier that what you do know, which is that you aren’t living the life you want to be living. To me, that’s the worst of all.” Yes, yes and more YES. (!!!!!!) This speaks to me in so many ways right now. It’s so great to hear where you’ve been, what you’ve done, and where you’re going. SO excited for everything ahead for you! 2016 is gonna be amazing. Go get ’em! <3

  • Jesse

Congrats on Forbes, that is so awesome. I feel like your message really resonated with me, about following your passion, and leaping in to the unknown. I need to leave a job situation that is no longer a good fit for me and thinking about quitting seems scary but seems like it would feel right too. I love Eckhart Tolle, “A New Earth” is one of my favorites, and he kind of says the same thing, about being in the present moment, and not worrying about what will come after that. And trusting that things work out. So thanks again for sharing. I can also understand needing to make a change with your company as well if it doesn’t feel right. I’m looking forward to your YouTube make-up tutorials and other goodness you have coming for us this next year too!

  • Megan McGrane

Brava! Congratulations on the successes of 2105 & best wishes on a happy healthy and fabulous 2016. You and your blog inspire me to keep reaching for my passion, creating and sharing my healthiest life. Looking forward to seeing what you bring to the table next!

  • willow rockwell

The sky is the limit with your youtube channel! I would love to see little “day in the life” clips, hair tutorials, makeup, maybe some little yoga videos, your fridge…am I missing anything? Oh, and your closet! Congrats and good luck!

  • Olivia

Hi Annie! Congratulation! That’s so exciting! I can’t wait for your YouTube channel 🙂 I would love to see some of your favorite recipes and must-have beauty & skincare products. Have a great week! Olivia

  • Rachel S.

Congrats on the Forbes listing, Annie! Having worked at startup companies, I know what you mean about how things can change and companies can lose the magic they once had at the beginning. And especially for how much the company must have changed since you first started it! You’ve already accomplished great things and it’s great to see you taking the right next step for you. I’ve loved following you through your blog and can’t wait to see more content. My request would be to see more nutrition posts and recipes – I love that yours are always healthy and delicious but also simple enough to accomplish on a busy weeknight and don’t require a million ingredients. xoxo

  • Steven Cox

Congrats on pressing forward. There comes a time when we must let go of the old to make room for the new. Rock it out!

  • Honestly Fitness

Annie, well done on making a tough decision to step away from Suja as an active member and huge congrats again on your Forbes feature. It is inspiring to see someone who made a change like this when you could have so easily stayed, because like you said it would’ve been easy to do so. I hope you continue to have a voice in the direction Suja takes regardless and I wish you the best of luck in your new endeavor. Needless to say, I am so excited to see how this year pans out for you!!

I’ve always loved reading your interesting and honest posts and omg, I can’t wait for your Youtube channel. Yay!! I would love to see more food related content (big foodie, just like you) and would love to have an update on how meditating is going for you. I’ve been meditating on and off for a year, and just cannot seem to get it down as a daily habit. Ooh, and any fitness posts are always enjoyable for me to read too!!

  • Honestly Fitness

Kat, would love to see something about advice on how to deal with friends or family making bad health/lifestyle choices as well!

  • Michael Walsh

Congratulations on being in the 30 under 30!! I just finished reading this months forbes and it was great to see that another ASU grad is out there killing it! I’ve been a Suja drinker for the past 3 months and have loved product i make it part of my regular diet now. The numbers they showed in forbes are super impressive for someone so young keep up the good work! I’ll definitely check out your youtube channel. As for topics i’d like you to cover 1. Business, I work in commercial real estate but id still be interested in seeing how you run your company 2. Nutrition, everyone can definitely learn a lot from you 3. Travel, St Barths and Aspen looked dope its cool that you have your own Private Jet too

  • Erin

Congrats on the Forbes article and such a fabulous accomplishment at your age! Cannot wait to see and follow what is next. A new brand? As in…. related to fashion I am guessing!? I love the unique vibe of brands that are different looking, have a great purpose and specifically, that I can relate to. I am on the go constantly, managing several (often too many) projects: work/travel/single mom to 3 teenage girls/boyfriend/family and healthy living. That said, I like to hear about ideas/things/tips and clothing/accessories/healthy living that fit into or complement my lifestyle, passion and interests!

  • Megan

Congrats on your feature in Forbes! I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability in sharing with us your decision to move on from (one) of your businesses. I am thrilled you are starting a YouTube channel – would be so fun to see some day-in-the-life or view of my fridge – more casual type vlogs mixed in with your other featured content! I love your style and for the blog, I think a more formal look for less feature (not knock-offs) for some of the fashion/accessory posts would be amazing and so helpful! You’ve inspired me so much to stick to fewer items/better quality, but think your suggestions on high / med / low price points would be a fun spin. Thank you for including us in your journey and all the best on your future brands!

  • Lisa

Congrats on the Forbes list and I know whatever you set out to accomplish next you will be a total #GirlBoss and dominate! I’ve loved following your career over the last few years and think what you’ve built is incredible.

  • arogers

Love to hear about food and exercise!

  • Sarah Stokke

makeup + hair videos, seasonal/destination clothing, wellness knowledge, career advice, and most importantly your fav recipes!

  • Shannon Silver

Hi Annie! A huge congrats on being on the 30 under 30 – that is a huge accomplishment, and very inspiring to me (as I am about to turn 30!) – seeing what you’ve done in your industry and company has been super inspiring, and you have my utmost respect for staying true to your beliefs, values, & passions. I am very excited to see what the future has in store for you. Blawnde is one of my very favourite blogs out there so I am excited to see it go full-time. You are incredibly inspiring when it comes to my food choices (I have mentioned this plenty of times, but I love how you keep things gluten-free, yet indulgent – you eat perfectly), and fashion (I never knew I needed grey lipstick until now!) and your knowledge with food & nutrition is out of this world. Good for you for staying true to yourself. It is something that is much easier said than done & you have so much ahead of you.

As far as Blawnde, I would personally love to see food diaries, recipes, things you are just loving right now (both fashion & food) – but I would also LOVE to see business posts! You were leading and founding a major company at a remarkable age. I would love your advice to entrepreneurial, how to start something from the bottom up, how you knew to make the leap into a company you created full time, and even blogging advice! How to blog full time, opportunities with blogging, day in the life’s, and advice to success with blogging – etc. I think you are such a fountain of knowledge for it all.

Again, congrats – I am so excited for you and I know 2016 will be the beginning of something truly great for you! xx SS

  • Liz Gospel

Ahh I’m so glad it resonated with you! And thank you for your support and taking the time to read my blog! I am so excited to create more content to share with you <3

  • blawnde

Change can always be scary, but that’s because you’re leaving the comfort of what you know to try something new. I love A New Earth. It is so so true about being present…everything does work out. You can’t think too far ahead or you’ll be too scared to take actions now. I will definitely be doing some makeup tutorials so I’m really happy you guys seem to want that!! XO

  • blawnde

Thank you love!! That is SO great to hear! Can’t wait to share lots of newness with you guys! xoxo

  • blawnde

LOL, I don’t think you missed anything! hehe. These are great ideas and I will hopefully be doing them all at some point! Thank you for being part of my journey. xo

  • blawnde

Thank you!! i plan to cover all of that and am so happy you want to see it! XO

  • blawnde

Thank you!! Things do change a lot when a company grows and I learned how important it is to accept that it doesn’t always mean you have to go that same direction. It’s completely OK if you don’t want to stay in a situation that was once something you loved. I will definitely be posting a lot about nutrition and food! XO

  • blawnde

Thank you!! That is definitely true and it’s all about doing what feels good! XO

  • blawnde

Thank you so much!! I will definitely incorporate food, recipes, and DEF my fave topic – meditation! Yay! So glad you want to see that kind of content. XO

  • blawnde

Thank you!! WOW, it sounds like you definitely have a busy and full life. My goal has always been to create something that makes people’s lives better in some way without being inaccessible or hard to incorporate. I can’t wait to share more with you! XO

  • blawnde

Thank you!! I am all about the casual type of vlog posts so I can share more of my life with you guys. I can also incorporate different price ranges of items or look for less type of posts! I love that you’ve been sticking to fewer high quality items. Investment pieces will always be the smartest purchases because you will get a lot more use out of them. XO

  • blawnde

Thank you so much!!! That is so sweet. I really appreciate your reading my blog. XO

  • blawnde

    Word! X

  • blawnde

Done! I love all of these ideas and am really excited to create this new content for you guys! XO

  • blawnde

Hi Shannon! Your comment is SO sweet – thank you for your positivity and support! I am really excited about this next step.

I can definitely incorporate some entrepreneurial/business posts! I would love to share some of the things I’ve learned (some the hard way) and dig deeper into my experience the last 5 years or so. Especially if it can help anyone avoid some of the same mistakes I made or help them make progress faster. XO

  • blawnde

    Thank you sweetie!! XXOOO

  • blawnde

Thank you Liz!! I really appreciate your consistent support of me, my blog, and my goals throughout the last couple years. It has meant so much to me. Thanks for the content feedback – all will be coming up soon and I can’t wait to share it with you!! XOXOXOXO

  • blawnde

Oh i have a lot to say about this – consider it done! I have a girlfriend who wants to lose weight but I’m always on her for the misguided choices she makes thinking they’re not as bad as they are. She suggested doing a funny video about it together so that’s the plan! XO

  • blawnde

Thank you Kat!!! You have been such an amazing reader and friend throughout my journey the last couple years! I am honored that anything I’ve shared or done has inspired you. That’s the whole reason I have the blog is so that I can hopefully help people in some way. Hair and makeup def coming right up on the channel!! i will also totally address friends/family with unhealthy lifestyle choices. Can’t wait to create this new content for you guys!! XO

  • blawnde

Thank you!!! I can definitely incorporate some business advice and things I’ve learned on the blog – I have gotten a lot more requests for that than I expected! And of course, nutrition and travel will always be big parts of any blog of mine 🙂 XO

  • Prabodh Jena

Congrats on Forbes!!! That is so exciting Annie. I am so happy for you as you step into your next adventure! It’s inspiring to see your dedication and passion in all things in life. I think sometimes both circumstances change and we change but that doesn’t necessarily mean something is ‘bad’ or ‘wasn’t good’ – it’s just not a good fit for us anymore
