HerRoom in My Room

September 29, 2016  //  Style

Hello everyone!! This week has just completely flown by me, and it’s hard to believe it’s already Friday. I don’t even know where the time went. To make matters even weirder, Saturday is October. OCTOBER! Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Halloween, the first sweater needing days, and my birthday…how this is here already I don’t even know. Then it will be Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then 2017! I can’t even think about how different time feels now than when I was a kid, and it felt fooooreeeevvver waiting for my birthday in October after my best friend’s in August. Makes me feel old! I know that’s silly, but there is definitely a shift in time perception that occurs as you age.

I was in LA Saturday speaking at the Bloguettes workshop all about social media and how to create an online presence in the digital space, whether you’re a blogger or an entrepreneur. It was SO much fun to connect with so many interesting girls and some of YOU guys that I always love, love, love meeting!!! If you are interested in a recap of what we talked about or just my tips/what I’ve learned about blogging and social media in the last few years, comment below and I can definitely do that for you guys! Then I was back in LA Tuesday with some of my best girlfriends taking a Laura Mercier Master Class hosted by Byrdie Beauty! It was so much fun to hear exactly how to use Laura Mercier products I’ve loved and used forever from the true experts and people on Laura’s team that were part of launching the brand in the 90s. They kindly gifted us a lot of the newer products I don’t even have yet as well as about 842 caviar eye sticks, and you guys know how I feel about those. I thought I loved Copper the most, until I met my new obsession, Rose Gold. It’s literally impossible to F up the application of those eye sticks and they make your eye look so much more polished and sophisticated than the time you actually spent on it. I also got a new shade of my tried and true Secret Camouflage concealer that I’ve used since high school, and it turns out, I’ve been using 2 shades too light for me for about 12 years. Glad I got that fixed. If you want to see a post of my top 10 holy grail Laura Mercier products and how I use them, tell me below and I’ll do that too!

OK! So now that I’ve chatty Kathy’d for 2 paragraphs before even starting this post, let’s just get right into it. I’ve done some shopping in the last month or two. Like, I’m not even going to sugar coat it and pretend it was a shirt here and some shoes there. It was more like, fall is coming, and Fashion Week is coming, and I feel like a lot of things in my closet are not my style anymore or have been worn more times than I can count or have holes in them so I’m going to do a massive shop and justify it by cleaning out my closet. Out with the old, in with the new…I’m sure some of you have used that one to tell yourself before bed so you can sleep at night after a massive shopping spree, no? Anyone? So, I had to back it up by actually doing the clean out. And I did! Which felt so so so good and now I can actually see what I have instead of feeling like my closet is just one big mess. One category that was kind of shocking to me was my undergarments and how quickly a lot of my nice undies have gotten really worn out and kind of gross looking. I have made much more of an effort in the last year to wear “pretty” lingerie to feel cute and sexy, and so my boyfriend doesn’t have to see my Hanes from Target circa college. Lingerie is one of those things that even if nobody else knows you’re wearing faded, holey granny panties, you do and you feel it and if affects how you feel about your whole outfit and vibe. In my last clean out back in January, I threw tons out and scaled down my collection to 1/4 of what it was before, but much nicer pieces. Meaning all of those pieces have been on heavy rotation because they are everyday items. I don’t know what it is about lingerie, but it just starts to look so dinge-y and worn (and spray tan stained), and that’s not a good look. I decided to just chuck it all and resolve that underwear is a lot like towels and they just need to be regularly replaced and that’s that.

I went to HerRoom.com because they have this thing called Universal Cup Size that tells you your bra size in every brand they carry if you find your correct size in one brand. This is huge for me because shopping online for bras is so tricky! I was really happy to find they carry my favorite brands like La Perla, Cosabella, Hanky Panky, and Agent Provocateur. The pictures and detailed descriptions make it so much easier than shopping online for lingerie anywhere else. I picked up some really beautiful things that will all be linked below, and I shot a few of my favorites alongside my date night essentials for feeling my best in a low cut top or dress with sexy lingerie peeking out. These include highlighter for the collarbone and shoulders to give a sexy glow, a temporary bronzing lotion to warm up my skin, a feminine classic scent, and a bold lip to draw attention to my smile and laugh.

I couldn’t agree more about the lingerie! Especially since I work in a male dominate industry where I dress pretty conservatively (hey, I like attention as much as the next girl, but I don’t want a fat old guy undressing me with his eyes! And I want to be known for being a great engineer at work, not for how nice my legs are), it’s nice to have a hidden boost of confidence with sexy little underthings! I have been procrastinating tossing old stuff for awhile, so thanks for the motivation to get that done!

I’d love to see a makeup tutorial! Because makeup is awesome. Now that Olivia is almost five I feel like maybe I can take her into Sephora to pick out a few of her own things… she obsessed with pretending (usually just pretending anyway!) with my makeup, and also wearing my shoes and bags. I know you’re not quite there yet, but I have to say, it’s so fun having a daughter who shares my love of fashion and who loves to sport her own style eight the number one accessory – confidence!! As weird as it prob sounds, I can’t wait until she’s old enough for us to hopefully share shoes and clothes!

Would love to hear more about what you learned at the Laura Mercier event!! I’ve been wanting to try their Secret
Camouflage concealer for quite some time but because the palette has two separate shades I don’t know how to go about buying it! (Does that sound silly?!) I would mainly be using it for under my eyes and spot concealing. Plus I never know if I should go to the counter with a full face of makeup on or not…I obviously want the makeup to match my natural skin correctly. Any tips would be super! 🙂

Hi!! OK, so don’t get the Secret Camouflage for under your eyes. Just saying that right now. It’s way too “hard” and thick and makes my undereye area look like I have wrinkles I never knew existed. It’s just not creamy and hydrating enough. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS recommend using a liquid for under your eyes. My favorite is the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer forever ever.

The SC is really ideal for blemishes and pigmentation on the rest of the face. It is SO high coverage and will not budge and melts beautifully into the skin – just not on the super thin undereye skin. It is honestly my favorite concealer I have ever used for blemishes and spot concealing, but way too thick to be used in larger areas.

    XO
