Hello my loves!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine included lots of home time, enjoying being back in my own bed, snuggling our puppy, walking the beach, eating at my favorite local spots, and catching up with my friends! Right after we got back, we spent a couple nights away from home followed by a quick trip to Santa Barbara, so this weekend was all about settling back in. I was back up in the gym training this morning and it felt sooooo good to work my muscles. While traveling, I did tons of hiking and walking, but there’s nothing like lots of squats and lunges to get that booty burning.
As I was unpacking and reorganizing my bathroom, I had so many empty and nearly empty products, I thought it would be the perfect time to share the things I have been absolutely loving this month. I feel the the true test of how much you love a product is whether or not it comes with you on a long trip. I like to pack as light as I can (my bag is still no feather, but that’s neither here nor there) so if I bring a product with me, we run deep and it’s a g0-t0 item.
These change a lot and I buy and try more new products than I’d like to admit, so if you guys like this post and want me to do a favorites post every month, comment below and I will! Also, this is just beauty faves, but if you want to see fashion and other (books, movies, etc.) I can also do that for you. Just LMK!
Now, let’s get to it!
Bare Minerals Gen Nude Buttercream Lipgloss in Groovy– Bare Minerals recently released 60 new shades of nude lippies in 4 finishes – buttercream glosses, matte liquid lipsticks, radiant lipsticks, and lipliners. I’m a nude lip whore, so naturally I was all over it. I have a few shades of each finish, and I am in a love affair with the glosses, radiant lipsticks and liners. The liquid lipstick formula is a bit strange, as it doesn’t really dry down like most liquid lipsticks and apply a bit streaky/patchy, so I haven’t been reaching for those much, but the 3 other finishes are bomb and the shade range is just incredible if you are into nudes. I have been wearing a nude lip all summer long because I love how low maintenance it is for summer nights and beach days. Of the entire range, my favorite item is the Buttercream Lipgloss in the shade Groovy. It’s the perfect soft, pinky beige that isn’t too brown, and not too pink, that will compliment ANY skintone. I usually apply this generously over a nude lipstick, and it just adds the perfect fresh glossy sheen that I adore for summer. It’s also a great highlighting shade to add to the center of a darker lipstick to make your lips look poutier and bigger. This comfortable and hydrating formula makes these glosses a big win from Bare Minerals!
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer – This has been my all time favorite concealer FOR-EV-ER. I fucking love this stuff so so much. I have tried so many other concealers, but always come back to this one because it hits that sweet spot of being full coverage but impossibly lightweight and non-cakey at the same time. It doesn’t crease or cling to my dry patches, and stays on all day without breaking up or looking patchy. A lot of full coverage concealers are super drying and clingy, but somehow someway, this formula is just weightless and hydrating. I use 5 different shades (my actual shade Ginger, Honey to correct my under eye darkness because it has a peachy undertone, Vanilla and Custard to highlight the center of my face, and Biscuit and Caramel to contour my cheekbones and forehead). Last week, they release 6 new shades and I almost died of happiness and got them all! My new current favorites are Macadamia (this has replaced Custard for me!) and Hazelnut (a fabulous warm undertone bronzing shade for the perimeter of the face).
Vita Liberata Body Blur – This stuff has been my lifeline this past month. I’ve basically been living in a bikini, so I need all the help I can get. This not only bronzes your skin and makes it look 2-3 shades darker instantly, but it also makes it look smooth and airbrushed. I would liken it to body makeup, but it’s not heavy or thick. I would only use with dark outfits or in a bikini, because I did notice the inside of my white shorts was no longer white after wearing it during an outdoor warm weather lunch, but it did wash right out and I didn’t notice much transfer on my bathing suits or coverups. It has the perfect amount of shimmer for that sexy skin look and it totally covered up/blurred my patchy spray tan as it was wearing off. I relied solely on this to make me look tan and help my skin look flawless when I was in a bikini and will never go without it at the beach now. It’s also oil-free so you can use it on your face if you just want to swipe it on for an all over glow bronze look!
NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint – Here we go again with the NARS. They’re killing the makeup game right now. This Velvet Matte Skin Tint confused me at first and wasn’t a product I thought I’d like. I’m not a sheer coverage/tinted moisturizer kinda girl, and maybe it is the tube packaging, but I thought that’s what this would be like. I want medium to full coverage at all times and love that flawless skin look. I got a sample of this with a Sephora order, so I put it on to see how the texture felt, and it is EXACTLY how it is described – velvet matte. It has a mousse-y, creamy texture on the skin that does finish matte, but maintains a beautiful luminosity that doesn’t look flat. The coverage also really surprised because it is definitely more like a foundation than a tinted moisturizer. It blends out really easily just using my fingers, and I find I don’t even need to set it with a powder. It has been great for lightweight, warm weather coverage, and I haven’t touched any of my other foundations since I picked it up.
The Beauty Blender – I have always preferred applying my foundation and concealer with brushes because damp sponges seem to soak up a lot of product and make them less full coverage. BUT, I have really changed my tune this month. I picked up a brand new Beauty Blender when I lost my bag in Spain and had none of my makeup brushes handy, and I am fully converted to the damp sponge application method now. NOTHING applies liquid products more seamlessly and presses them into the skin better than a damp beauty sponge. This thing has really taken my cream contouring with the above mentioned NARS concealer in the hollows of my cheekbones and the sides of my forehead to the next level. It just melts the product into my skin, making my contour look perfectly seamless. I also dip it into my Laura Mercier translucent powder and press it under my eyes to bake my concealer, and I have never seen my undereye area so creaseless. I can’t even explain how perfect my foundation and concealer looks when I use the BB. It’s a magical thing.
Benefit Gimme Brow – OK, this has honestly changed my brow life. I can’t do my brows without it now. It is a tinted brush on gel that has little hair mimicking micro fibers in it to make your brows actually look…hairier…bushier…more voluminous…whatever you want to call it. I was using the Anastasia brow gel before, and when I tried this, I felt sorry for my Anastasia gel that it was never going to be picked up again. This stuff doesn’t only set your brows, it makes them more amplified, fuller, and longer looking too. I have actually been using this BEFORE filing in my brows with a pencil to beef them up and keep me from over penciling and then AFTER I finish filling them in to set them in place and add another layer of fiber-y hairy goodness. It is just the most amazing little brow product I’ve found! Good on you, Benefit.
Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm – This balm is any makeup wearer’s dream at the end of the day when you just want to take it all off. I don’t use makeup wipes anymore because this is so much more gentle and effective. It’s not as messy and slippery as an oil, but it’s not as abrasive and harsh as a wipe that you have to violently rub on your skin and eyes to break down the makeup. I scoop a small amount onto the pads of my fingers and massage it all over my face, concentrating on my eyes. Within seconds, everything is completely dissolved, and I just rinse it away with water before going in with cleanser. I used to dreeeeaaaaddd taking off my makeup because it was like a big chore. This has made it so easy and dare I say, a pleasure, taking off my makeup. I love love love this stuff (and the tub lasts forever!)
Philosophy Purity 3-in-1 Cleanser for Face and Eyes – Speaking of cleansing my face at the end of the day, this has been my go-to cleanser for the last 5 weeks or so. I absolutely love this stuff! So many cleansers on the market are just too much. They have acids, exfoliants, treatments, and medicating agents that can really strip your skin down over time. I just wanted to find a great basic all purpose standard cleanser that wouldn’t bother my skin, and this is it. It strikes the perfect balance of deep cleaning my skin and removing all traces of makeup and grease, but not drying it out or irritating it at all. I have also been using this to clean my Beauty Blender every night right before or after washing my face because it’s such a great makeup remover while still being gentle enough to not destroy it. I just lay the sponge out to dry before bed and every morning I have a clean, pleasant smelling BB ready to apply my makeup!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette – This has to be my best eye palette purchase of the year after my beloved Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye. At first glance, I thought a lot of these shades were way too pink and red to be wearable on a daily basis. But, after swatching it, my mind completely changed and I purchased it immediately. The red and pinker shades are incredibly versatile and neutral when blended in with the warmer oranges and browns. There are a couple beautiful mauve-y cool tone shades, which I really appreciate as a blonde, and some wonderful basic staple colors and transition shades that I’ve been wearing non-stop. Vermeer and Primavera are stunning highlight shades for the brow bone and inner corners of the eyes, but I’ve also been popping them on the tops of my cheekbones and tip of my nose for a little pop of highlight. If you think this palette is too jewel toned, warm toned, or just not neutral enough for you, I urge you to go swatch it before passing it up. It is the best shadow palette Anastasia has ever released, in my opinion!
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess – If you love summer, coconuts, warmth, tropical beaches, and pina coladas, go get this fragrance and thank me later. It’s the most exotic, summery scent that is light enough to drench yourself in for a beach day or sexy summer night. It reminds me of the sunscreen you wear as a kid mixed with the beautiful soaps you find in villas along the Amalfi Coast. You will probably get a much better description from our friend Google, so I’ll just stop trying to explain it in my elementary way and tell you that you need this in your life ASAP if you love all things beachy!
Hourglass 1.5MM Mechanical Gel Eye Liner in Canyon – Let’s just get the fact that I’m an eyeliner whore out of the way. I don’t go to the gym or the beach without eyeliner. I feel naked without it and it’s my favorite makeup item in existence. I will always love black smudgy eyeliner until the day I die, but my recent beach vacations had me reaching for this guy and I am in love. I have had this in black for a while, but this new brown shade was recently released and it is such a game changer for me. I love how it still defines my eyes without being as harsh as black for the summertime so I don’t feel as “made up” for a beach or pool day. It’s the thinnest, most precise little pencil I’ve ever found. You can tightline and get into the waterline like nothing else with this little guy. It’s also the softest pencil version of a gel liner that glides on so easily without any pulling or tugging on the eyelid. And super importantly, it’s waterproof and I love that it stays put all day through sweat, swimming, and just long wear.
Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray – I always always always use a setting spray as the last step of my makeup application because it helps make all of the powders (setting powder, bronzer, contour, blush. highlight) melt together and look less “makeup-y”. I also really notice a longer wear time when I use a setting spray because they usually contain ingredients that help makeup adhere to the skin better. If you’ve seen my Holy Grail Makeup Products Part 1 and 2 videos on my channel, you already know my love for UD All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. I ran out of my last bottle, and when I went to Sephora for a new one, I decided to try the De-Slick version because the summer heat and humidity has had my T-zone looking much more greasy than normal. When I was in Spain, this was one of the first things I purchased there when my bag got lost because I missed it so much. In Fiji, I was at the beach all day every day or on a hot, sweaty hike, so this was my savior for keeping my makeup looking matte or as matte as possible in the tropical climate. The reason I love this so much is that I notice a marked difference when I use it, whereas a lot of setting sprays just feel like a nice mist but that’s it. I truly see a difference in the wear time and finish of my makeup when I use the UD sprays and this one in particular has been such a staple for me this past month. You will love.
