Hi guys!!! I hope you had a great weekend! Sorry I’ve been a bit MIA the last few days, but things have been very atypical around here and my schedule has been quite thrown off. I’m currently curled up in bed with a nasty cold that I felt coming on the last few days, but finally took me down today. I started taking oil of oregano and turmeric, and although my appetite has been pretty low, I’ve had lots of warm fluids like chicken soup and teas. Hopefully it’s on its way out – I am the worst sick person because I am soooo impatient and antsy to get back in life.
So last week, I headed to NYC for a last minute, unplanned trip because I was invited to be interviewed on Fox by Bill O’Reilley on The O’Reilley Factor! I flew from LA because I had meetings there beforehand, and was starving before the flight. I NEVER eat plane food because I can never know what’s in it, so I decided to grab something before hopping on the plane. I love Lemonade at LAX because it’s so much cleaner than most “fast food” places. I had a really good chicken soup in a tomato broth with olives and a romaine salad dressed with lemon vinaigrette and lemon salmon. The topic of the interview was the Forbes 30 Under 30 announcement and questions about “success at a young age”. I was a bit nervous walking in because I had gone down the rabbit hole of Googling “Bill O’Reilley’s most controversial moments” the night before and needless to say, he can be…tough. Yes, I am the person that googles worst possible scenarios – you don’t even want to know what I’ve been Googling about this head cold I’ve currently got. But, it was all for nothing because I had SUCH a great time and he was a super nice guy. The interview was pretty quick and I was in and out and quite relieved to be finished.
Afterwards, boyfriend planned the best night ever because he last minute scored 2 front and center tix to Hamilton, which I’ve been DYING to see. We went from Fox to an early dinner at Quality Meats. I forgot to photo my meal, but in case you were wondering I had tuna tartare to start and a filet with steamed spinach. Next, we went to the theater, and I can happily report Hamilton was absolutely incredible!! If you have the chance to go, do not miss it!
Now, I want to follow up on my last post with some links for you to my favorite brands/forms of the superherbs I talked about because so many of you guys left questions in the comments section! Here are the deets:
ASTRAGALUS: This is my favorite brand because it’s alcohol free. I like the liquid form of this because the body absorbs it easier and faster than powdered or capsulated formats. I put 30 drops – yes, 30 – in warm water with lemon twice a day and drink it as a tea when I use this.
RHODIOLA: I take a capsule form of this, and this one is my go-to because it’s organic, gelatin free, and a whole root extract. I take one in the morning with breakfast and one at dinner when I’m taking this.
ASHWAGANDHA: I loooooove this stuff! I take 2 capsules twice a day (morning and night) when I’m feeling extra run down, and 1 twice per day when I feel a bit better.
REISHI: I drink this as a hot chocolate and I use this brand because it’s concentrated to ensure easy absorption and there’s only one ingredient – reishi! I heat 1/2 tsp with about 1.5 cups unsweetened coconut milk and scoop of cacao (I can be heavy handed on the cacao, but I’d say it’s about 1 tsp). I add a few drops of vanilla stevia and whisk until it’s frothy and delicious.
GINGER: I just use the plain ole root for this and I boil a few slices in water with lemon and drink it as a tea. I also add it to juices and smoothies if I’m making them that day.
OREGANO: I take oil of oregano in capsule form all the way because I just can’t get it down any other way. I do 2 of these when I feel sick (like right now).
TURMERIC: If I’m juicing, I’ll use the root, but since I don’t juice every day and I don’t alway see it at Whole Foods, this brand is my all time favorite. It’s organic, it’s really pure, and it also contains ginger which is great.
CHAMOMILE: I told you guys my favorite way to do this is tea with a little coconut milk at night to make a super soothing nightime latte! This brand is my ride or die because I looooooove the flavor. Note, it has lemon in it too (which is why I love it) so if you want a straight up plain chami tea this isn’t it. But try this one, it’s great and it’s organic.
ARNICA: I most often use this externally and rub arnica cream on areas of pain or soreness. This is the one I’ve used forever and I really like it because I get quick relief and it also contains MSM, which is also a great anti-inflammatory pain reliever.
GINSENG: I take this the exact same way I take Astragalus and for the exact same reason. Ginseng is aborbed faster and better in liquid form and I like this brand because it’s certified organic, nicely concentrated, and very pure.
If you have any other questions, feel free to leave them below! I hope you guys had a great weekend and that none of you are sick like I am!! Tell me what you guys have been up to!
