Hello my lovelies!!! So, I have some really painful news that might help explain my lack of internet presence this last week. You may have seen on Snapchat, but I am currently computer-less and it is 100% my fault. I don’t want to bore you with this story, but I’m going to tell it anyway, and you can easily skip through by going to the next paragraph if you don’t give a shit. If it weren’t my life, I probably wouldn’t give a shit either 🙂 I was up early after a strange night of insomnia on Saturday morning, and I was feeling extra groggy. I was sitting at the kitchen counter drinking my almond milk latte per usu, reading the latest and greatest fashion and beauty news updates on my Macbook Air, aka my bestie because it is such a big part of my daily life. Mid-conversation with boyfriend, as I’m sloppily talking with my hands (more like throwing them around as if not attached to my body), I swiped my latte glass and over my laptop it poured. And seeped. Right into my computer via the keyboard. Boyfriend knew how grave this was so he jumped up with a very impressive response time and grabbed about 52,0812 paper towels and started pressing them all over my laptop with utmost care. I frantically snapped you guys as I lay there with my lifeless bestie. A few of you suggested standing her up like a tee pee to let the coffee drain away from the important areas inside, so I did that and she came on again! All was right in the world! I had to catch a flight to Arizona for my mom’s 60th birthday, so I packed my bestie up and away we went. That night, in my sister’s guest house, all propped in up bed, ready to catch up with my bestie, I noticed she wasn’t charging. And her battery was draining. She was dying on me!!!!! The next day a Genius at Apple confirmed she was terminal, had very little time left, and I would need a new best friend. SO, I’m blogging from my iPad which is weird AF and waiting for my new BFF to arrive (hopefully tomorrow). I hope she likes me.
SO, that said, this weekend is Mother’s Day and amidst the chaos of losing my best, I need to get myself in gift mode to be a good daughter and get my mom something she digs. I pride myself on giving good gifts because I feel it’s a sign that you thought about that person, who they really are, and are intuitive to their needs. I didn’t exactly get my love of makeup and beauty products from my dad, so let’s just say, my mom and older sister are responsible for teaching my tomboy self the ways of makeup errything. To me, the best makeup gift you can possibly give is a palette. Why? Because palettes are substantial and feel much more luxe as a gift than opening up a bunch of tiny individual shadows or a random blush compact. Palettes are mesmerizing when you open them because…all the pretty colors…ooooooh… OK, maybe that’s just me, but when I see a pretty palette I get way weird and need to touch it, swatch it, and possess it because it just touches me on an emo level. I know, issues. I also think palettes are the way to go as a makeup gift because you don’t want to go buy someone a foundation. Or a powder. Or concealer. Makeup is a very personal thing – some people prefer cool tones, some are all about warms, some are neutral, some are bold, some like creams, some like powders…you get it, it’s just hard to buy makeup for other people. But palettes are the perfect solution because they have something for everyone! They tend to have a mix of cool, neutral, and warm tones, mattes and shimmers, and light and dark shades so there is something for every skin tone and style.
ULTA sent me something about Mother’s Day because they have 4 gift tabs on their site broken out by the type of mama you’ve got – On Trend Mom, Natural Mom, Classic Mom, and On the Go Mom. I found this to be incredibly easy to sort through, and I ordered a bunch of palettes because I literally could not stop myself. I love ULTA so much because they have so many amazing brands and products in one place (also why I hate it). As I’ve been playing with them, I love that they all feel like they would work for any mom because they are all filled with good, solid basics and come in beaaaaauuuutiful packaging. I mean, do you see this Benefit Cheekathon Palette below??? Does it get any cuter? Would you even need to wrap that thing?
Here are my top palette picks for the absolutely perfect Mother’s Day gift that I think any mama would love:
Urban Decay XX Vice Ltd Reloaded (a versatile palette with great color payoff, fun pops of color, and lots of shimmers):
Anastasia That Gleam Glow Kit (these give such a gorgeous highlight for daytime or nighttime, when you’re tan or pale) :
Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons (this smells like chocolate!!!!! really. I wouldn’t play you. Incredible everyday neutral brown palette with a few shimmers and a couple pops of pink):
Benefit Cheekathon Blush and Bronzer Palette (This is the BEST deal because it contains all full size products that would cost you more than double the price to purchase individually. These have always been some of my favorite cheek products for their blend-ability and color range):
Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Palette (If you’re a girl, just buy this palette. You could use it forever without any other shadows and be fine. It’s got it all in term of basic staples) :
Tarte Tartelette 2 In Bloom Amazonian Clay Palette (The fun little sister of the above. Equally as useful!):
Tarte Energy Noir Clay Palette (As a cool tone blonde, I appreciate these mauvey, greigey shades and find it very rare to come across an entirely cool toned palette):
LORAC Pro Contour Palette (SO helpful for travel. I use the yellow highlight to set my undereye concealer and the medium contour shade to bronze, as well as the other light, deep, beige, and shimmer shades to actually highlight and contour, so it’s just a very clutch palette):
LORAC Take Me to Tantego Bronzer Palette (I was sold on this when I saw the shade Tan Diego!! Tug at my heartstrings why don’t you, LORAC? Also love there are 2 mattes and 2 subtle, NOT chunky glittery shimmers for when I’m feeling…sparkly. Is that a thing? Let’s go with it):
As you can see by the generous powder “dusting” and indent/brush marks, I’ve been using all of these pretty much exclusively and find them to be beautiful, perfect gifts for Mother’s Day and beyond! Each of these palettes feels so girly and luxurious, in addition to having really great staple basics to anchor any makeup wardrobe. I hope this post gave you some good gift ideas and I’d love to know what your favorite palettes are!!
