NYC // Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2015

November 16, 2015  //  Travel

Hi guys!!!!!!!!! Whew! I think this is the LONGEST I’ve ever gone without posting and I’ve missed you tremendously! I’ve been running around like crazy and it’s funny because whenever I’m doing a bunch of stuff without blogging it, I just think about how excited I am to get back and powwow with you on all the recent happenings! So last week, I was in NYC for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and a week of media meetings to launch our new probiotic water drink coming out in February! We introduced/previewed the drink at the VSFS, and it will officially be available exclusively in Target stores beginning in February. I will give you all the drink specs when it comes out so you can learn all about it! This is my third year attending the show + backstage + afterparty and, per usual, it did not disappoint! If you’ve been here with me for a while, you remember that last year the show was in London, which was incredibly fun and beautiful, but NYC just feels quintessentially VS and it was so nice to be back.

I get soooooo many questions about the experience and what it’s really like on show day. I spent all morning/day backstage while they get ready chatting with them and observing the makeup and hair magic, so here are some takeaways that may or may not surprise you:

1) The models really do have incredible skin. Each and every one of them have baby smooth crystal clear skin. I don’t know if it’s a routine facial situation they are doing weeks in advance, but it’s kind of amazing and I’m kind of jealous.

2) The angels eat. And I’m not talking a morsel of food, I’m talking full plates, granola bars, juices, chocolate, etc. They have sandwiches, fruit, and snacks backstage and they all eat substantial meals throughout the day despite the fact they are about to walk onstage practically naked for national television a few hours later. It’s awesome.

3) They all have fake hair. There are pounds of hair pieces backstage that are glued into each and every models hair. A lot of them start with great heads of hair, but the VS look is voluminous and overflowing waves so they add the extra hair to make it extra full and achieve that look.

4) The makeup is natural. When you see an angel’s completed makeup look, believe it or not, it’s not caked on. They like it to be incredibly natural and ethereal. There’s not 40 layers of foundation and airbrushed eye makeup. It’s all glowy, bronzy, and healthy.

5) They have fun and are super laid back. I think if I were in their position, I might be just a liiiiiiitle nervous. But, backstage they are laughing all day, smiling, hanging out, eating, and just generally chill. They are obviously pros at their job and understand how to maintain composure and carry themselves with poise. Not a nervous breakdown or anxiety attack in sight.

6) They’re really really tall. The supermodel height thing is real and their legs are incredibly long. I had a few jaw open moments in awe of how long some of their legs are.

So now that I’m home, let’s just get right to it! Because it’s been so long since I’ve blogged, I have a ton of photos, so my apols for the camera dump…

Welcome back! I’ve selfishly missed your posts and have been awaiting your NYC/VSFS recap, for sure 🙂 Such a fun experience to attend the show and get a behind-the-scenes look – it’s a beautiful production! And I love all the glitter/confetti, haha. Your outfits… all of them… and the Givenchy bag… chic perfection, as always.

My holiday plans = lots of decorating, family time, healthy baking, shopping, gyrotonics, barre, Pilates… basically, the same as all year round, but with a festive twist 😉

Wishing you a wonderful upcoming week, Annie! Hope you get some well-deserved relaxation time X

  • Pia @ Gymbags and Jetlags

We’ve missed you too!! I loveeeee reading about your adventures at the VS fashion show. It’s so funny that they have tons of hair lying around backstage. It makes sense though! Also, omg, ok! magazine?! I interned there during my spring break two years ago. Have a good week!
    xx, Pia

Welcome back lady!! The VS Fashion Show looked like such an amazing time. I was just in NYC and love the feel this time of year. You can’t beat the holidays in the city!

  • blawnde

Thanks mama! You really can’t beat holidays in the city! It’s magical! Thanks for popping in <3 x

  • blawnde

Hi!! The first time I saw all the hair a couple years ago I was like no way their hair isn’t real??! but then you see the finished product and practically NOBODY has hair that full and bouncy, so it’s nice to know even the models aren’t 100% perfect. I must have just missed you at OK! because I have media meetings there every fall! What a fun experience for you! XO

  • blawnde

Thank you!!!! I’m sure you can already gather that packing for NYC is the easiest and most fun of any place for me because it’s all black everything :)! Your holiday plans sound perfect! I’m already in baking mode and can’t wait for things to quiet down a bit so I can hunker down at home and holiday nest, although I’m spending both Thanksgiving and X-Mas away! Have a fab week! XOX

I’ve been coming here to check for a new post every few days and how excited I was just now when BAM! New post. 🙂 I love this recap!!!! How FUN!!! Thanks for it. Also, your outfit with the Balmain jacket and over the knee boots is so killer. You rock that look! Looove it. Also, i’m excited to try the new water you have coming out!!

  • Caroline

Hi Annie!! I’ve been waiting for this recap and as always, you never disappoint! Love following your adventures & successes .. and of course your outfits!! That Balmain jacket, I die 🙂

PS: going to Hawaii this week & can’t wait to visit the Mikoh boutique after seeing all your amazing suits!!

    xx

  • S @ Champagne at Shannon’s

Hi Annie! Welcome home! I LOVE your posts. I especially love seeing your food posts/pictures because I know you keep things clean, so it is so cool to see what you get because they always look so good – nothing deprived at all. In fact, I loved your post about everything you ate in Italy and showing how awesome you can eat there & keep things gluten-free.

I absolutely loved reading about the VS models! Would kill to know their skin care secrets, but it is so cool (& healthy!!!!) to know that they eat, and remain aplomb before the show. I know I’d be a nervous wreck with the anxiety so I am not cut for it for so many reasons.

Also, beyond STOKED for the probiotic water. Congrats on the upcoming launch for that! Such a great idea.

Thanks for sharing & hope you are enjoying the time home prepping for the holidays! xx SS

PS that Balmain jacket is absolutely stunning. Beautiful angles on it!

The height requirement for the VS angels does put me off a little. Not that it’s unrealistic (some people are just naturally tall!), but I would like to see more petite models out there. In fact, it’s something I’m seriously looking into for myself. Standing at 4 foot 9, I’d love for the chance to design my own line of mainly ‘athleisure’ clothing (that fits comfortably but still hugs around at the ‘right places’ haha; seriously, everything is so big and baggy these days), but also be the model for it. I’d love to represent petites and show that us girls can be beautiful and smoking in all shapes, colors, and sizes. 🙂

  • Hannah Hudson

Definitely looking forward to that probiotic water! Glad you enjoyed NY 🙂 I was just there during their 1st heatwave in 2 years so you’re lucky it’s nice and Holiday-ish now.

  • Pia @ Gymbags and Jetlags

Wait no way!! Do you know Lisa or Pam in Marketing?! It’s such a small world. Glad you had fun at the show!

  • blawnde

Aw, I love hearing that!! Sorry I left you hanging!! The jacket is everything and I’m so glad I bought it because it seriously makes a look! I’m going to live in it all winter! Thank u so much for reading! XX

  • blawnde

YOU WILL LOOOOOOVE all the Mikoh! They have amazing stuff out right now!!

And thank you for the sweet words! I really appreciate them and having you here! 🙂 XO

  • blawnde

Hi!!! Thank you love!! It’s so funny you say that about my food because people assume I must have a crazy strict or raw/vegan diet or just drink juice etc etc. and I’m the last person like that! Whenever I eat with someone new and get a steak and wine or something they’re like “wow…I didn’t know you could eat like that” 🙂 Our society is in such a deprivation mindset with the constant focus on weight loss and working out, but it’s really that we’re trying to offset all the processed food and junk in our food system. If you eat clean, unprocessed, whole foods the rest kind of falls into place and you don’t have to do all these crazy diets!

The jacket is killing me – I highly recommend a sharp structured blazer for winter. I plan to wear mine to death! XO

  • blawnde

    You should do it!! X

  • blawnde

It was actually fuhhhhreeezzzing and rainy, but I’m going back tomorrow and it’s supposed to be beautiful! XO

  • Rachel D.

@samantharodes:disqus I totally agree with being a bit put off with the model height. I think they are beautiful, but seriously the lack of height representation from a company that especially has a lot of business from girls of all is annoying. I’m 5’3 and would love to see that height represented. Also I feel that they used to weigh healthier back 6-8 years ago. Just my opinion though.

  • S @ Champagne at Shannon’s

I agree completely! It is so, so, so refreshing ( & inspiring!! ) to see your posts, and to be honest, EVERYTHING you eat looks just looks so, so good! Your lifestyle is reflected in your business and vice-versa, which shows – like YOU said about the models, that you are a pro at what you do – so again, love following you, your blog, & everything you eat. It keeps me inspired, especially for travel, that staying on track is FAR from deprivation! Thanks again, sorry for the love note LOL but your knowledge in how to correctly treat your body is just so apparent & shines with Suja!

The structure on the blazer & the colours !!!! are so perfect! xx SS

  • blawnde

No! I only know the editors I’ve met with!

  • Kat Motl Meeker

Looks like a fun and delish trip with so much eye candy!!!
I discovered that advent calendars have come a loooong way from the cheap waxy crap when I was a kid and I got my daughter a Lego fairy calendar and my husband a whisky advent calendar and I’m going to wrap them up and put them under the tree to open on December 1. I am beyond excited to see their faces and start a new tradition with my little family. I loooove gift wrapping and giving and all the over the top glitter and decor that make the Christmas season so magical.
Glad you are back to the blog!!! Always fun to hear what you’ve been up to. XO

  • Vee

Thank you for the post!! You are so beautiful and have amazing style!! Did you happen to see what foundation they use on the girls? I love how glowy and even their skintones are. Any other makeup items you saw? Thank you!
