Hello friends!!! I hope you are having a fabulous month so far! I am such a summer lover, but when fall comes around I am always really ready for it and welcome it with open arms. Although it’s still quite warm and 100% shorts weather in SoCal, I am in full fall mode drinking hot teas (more on that below), wearing deep berry lip shades, and lounging around the house in a plushy fleece robe. I love how seasons always change at just the right time, even when you feel resistant at first.
I tried a lot of really great new products in September and rediscovered my love for a few oldies, so I’m very happy to be sharing this list of everything I was loving last month! I like to mix it up a lot because there are always new products coming out and I like rotating things so I don’t get bored. My needs also change throughout the year, depending on how much I am traveling, weather conditions, hormonal fluctuations, etc. so having a good collection of go-to products for different things is really helpful when I need to reach for it. I hope you guys are enjoying seeing my monthly favorites to get some new ideas of products I really love and recommend to add to your routine! This list is quite long and there is a wide variety of things on it so let’s jump right in:
Jo Malone Sweet Almond and Macaroon Candle – I really wish your computer or phone screen was scratch and sniff so you could just understand why this candle is quite possibly the best scent you will ever experienced in your life. There are actually no words to describe this other than “perfection” and “happiness”. It is the most delicious mixture of sweet almond, coconut, cherries, and vanilla all melded together to make the coziest, sweetest, most incredibly delectable scent in the world. This makes me feel happy and childlike and permeates the entire house with yumminess. If you are looking for a fantastic fall candle that isn’t the standard pumpkin and chai spice scent, get this one. You will not regret it.
Laura Mercier Instant Ink 24 Hour Brush Eyeliner – If you want a liquid liner that can create a wing that would cut someone, this is it. Usually, I do normal eyeliner during the day, and save winged liner for date nights or special events. But, this past month I’ve been loving darker, vampier makeup, so I’ve been wearing a wing most days and I absolutely love how cool and polished it looks. During the day, I keep shadow minimal and just do a small eye-hugging flick, but at night I will do a cut crease or smoke up my crease and fade it into a bolder cat eye wing. This pen makes it SO SO SO easy to draw a perfect, sharp wing, and once it’s down it will not budge. Instead of a felt tip, it’s actually a brush tip, which is just so precise with one quick flick stroke. I can wear this from 8a to 8p and not need to worry at all about having liner out of place. I love it.
Aveda Comforting Tea – Two words: spa vibes. It’s been chillier in the mornings and evenings and iced coconut milk lattes are fading out in my life as fall is upon us. I’ve been doing lots of herbal teas and hot water with lemon, and this tea has quickly become my top shelf favorite. It is caffeine free, with licorice root and peppermint, so it’s perfect after meals at night or first thing the morning when you are just waking up and easing into the day. It is so calming and soothing, and I am actually enjoying it even more than coffee in the morning because it just feels like a big hug of coziness and relaxation. I frequently add warm almond milk to make a silky, creamy tea latte and I am really enjoying more than any other beverage.
Chanel No. 5 L’eau Spray – Chanel No. 5 has been a classic for eternity, but honestly, I have always felt it is too mature and stuffy for me. I’ve gotten a sample many times to see if I could grow to love it with wear, but I just never took to it. I love Coco Mademoiselle and Chance so much, but No. 5 was not my jam. However, they just re-did it for the first time ever as a lighter, fresher, younger, more modern version with citrus, May rose, oxygenated jasmine, and a new fraction of ylang-ylang that is much more cool and current than the original No. 5. When Chanel kindly sent me a bottle to try, I was amazed by how much I enjoyed it and could not stop bringing my wrist to my nose. This past month, I have used almost half the bottle (I spray way more than anyone should, but I love it) and it was the only scent I touched out of my entire fragrance collection. I feel elegant, sophisticated, and sexy when I wear this scent. If you have ever tried No. 5 and thought it may not be for you, I strongly suggest you pick up a sample of this or a small size of the bottle because you are going to be obsessed.
First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads: Okay, soooo, let me just give you a quick background on my skin type before I explain my love for these. I have dry, extremely sensitive skin, with an oily T-zone…so basically it’s bipolar and has an identity crisis. I am very wary of anything with acids in it because they just make me super red and burn the minute I apply them. I love the idea of using acids to exfoliate, tone, and brighten, but I have never found anything gentle enough for me to use. I am a HUGE fan of First Aid Beauty…like huge. Their Ultra Repair Cream has saved my legs from many crackly, dry days and I just think their ingredients are so conscious of irritable, sensitive skinned people. I purchased a little bundle set containing the Ultra Repair Cream since I needed it and a few other things to try, including a sampler size of these pads and I fell. in. love. I then got a full size 60 pad tub and went through the whole thing last month and just opened a new one. They have lactic and glycolic acids, but just the right amount for daily use without irriating sensitive skin. One of the first ingredients is aloe and they also contain cucumber to tone and soothe while still being effective. My skin texture has gotten so smooth and silky and makeup applies so evenly since I’ve started using these. They are also much easier than taking a cotton pad and pouring toner on it after cleansing because you just pull one out ready to go and wipe it over the face. These are definitely a new staple in my skincare regime and I highly recommend them.
Juara Invigorating Coffee Scrub: You know from my August Favorites that I am an exfoliation freak. I spray tan every 10 days or so, and it’s a big part of my pre-tan routine to get all the dead skin and old tan off. The feeling of totally smooth skin is like nothing else. I fell in love with the First Aid Beauty Charcoal Scrub in August, and ordered a new one that didn’t come in time for NYFW. When I got to NYC, I decided to buy an exfoliating scrub there because I was wearing mostly skirts and dresses and wanted my legs to be shiny, smooth, and clear of ingrowns and scaliness. I found this guy at a little beauty shop, and can I just tell you that even if it sucked, the smell is so insanely good I would use it anyway! But it is truly one of the best exfoliators I’ve ever used. It is made with Indonesian Sumatran coffee beans, walnut shells, and sulfate-free cleansers to not only exfoliate, but also clean the skin so you don’t have to do 2 steps of cleansing and exfoliating. It has the most delicious coffee aroma and totally wakes me up in the morning! I’ve also read a lot about coffee preventing cellulite, so I don’t hate that either.
Tatcha Classic Rice Enzyme Powderr: Not to sound like a broken record, but my skin is sensitive! I am always trying new exfoliators that remove dead skin since I’m dry and prone to flakiness without brillo padding my face. This exfoliator is my new holy grail facial exfoliant because it is VERY effective, yet gentle. It isn’t a grainy scrub like you would expect – it’s a powder. You wet your hands and and face and pour a bit of the powder into your hands. Then you massage it into your face in circular motions and it gently removes every single bit of dead skin and remaining makeup. I will say, I wasn’t sure if it was doing much the first time I used it because it is so…gentle, but I kept using it daily after my normal makeup removal and cleansing since it’s gentle enough to use everyday, and after 10 or so days I noticed a major difference in how soft and supple my skin was. If you like the instant gratification of a really grainy, aggressive scrub, this may not be for you, but if you have sensitive skin or just want to be able to exfoliate every single day because you need that, this is for you. Just be patient and give it a few days to see the actual results, but it is a total gem!
Bare Minerals Bare Pro Powder Foundation: This is a bold statement, but this powder is my favorite from this monthly favorites. Bare Minerals really caught me by surprise with this one, and I will even go bolder and say this is my favorite setting powder of all time. Yes. I went there. Let me explain how I set my face so you can get what I mean. After I apply foundation and conceal my undereye area and the center part of my face (forehead, bridge of the nose, chin) I take my damp beauty blender and dip it into my ride or die Laura Mercier Translucent setting powder and press it into those areas and let it sit while I do my eye makeup. I love the way the translucent powder brightens that center highlight zone of my face and is so finely milled and light that it doesn’t make my undereye area look cakey. The layer of powder under my eyes also picks up any eyeshadow fallout that might happen if I’m doing a darker eye look. When I’m done with my eye makeup, I take a soft fluffy face brush and quickly sweep the translucent powder away. Then, I take a more dense fluffy brush and dip it into a powder foundation (before this new love, it was always the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder) and set the rest of my face (perimeter of my forehead, cheeks, jaw line). I love that a foundation powder provides a little extra coverage and is a bit heavier in those areas that quickly wear off during the day. BUT, I got a couple colors, and one was way too dark so I started using that as a bronzer and holy shit….I have NEVER had a bronzer as natural looking as this darker shade of powder foundation. I think it’ s because they are designed to match actual skin tones as a foundation instead of trying to mimmick a tan as a bronzer. Bronzers can often appear a little or orangey, reddish, or yellow in tone, but this darker powder foundation shade is just a brown based golden shade that melts into my skin where I want to bronze perfectly. So, ya, I am really digging this stuff and I think it is one of the best powder foundations out there.
Fresh Sugar Cream Lip Treatment: Few things bug me more than dry lips with pieces of dead skin when I am wearing lipstick. I hate when my lips look clumpy (cute, I know). I have been a huge, huge, huge fan of the Fresh Sugar lip balms in the stick form for years. The Nude one is my ultimate favorite when I want to treat my dry lips but also wan’t some color. They smell like lemon and sugar and are very hydrating on the lips. I was at Sephora picking up a new set of tweezers and saw this on display in the Fresh section right by the checkout so I grabbed the Pink one and have not put it down all month. It is the perfect marriage of a beautiful lip gloss, with a nourishing treatment for dry lips that I always need. I’ve been using this alone on days when I’m not wearing much makeup or over lipstick when I’m doing a full face and it is just so beautiful. It is such a buttery, moisturizing formula and makes my lips soft for hours. It also comes in Blush which is more rosy than Pink, and Buff, which is a gorgeous nude shade that I’ve also picked up.
Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast: FINALLLLLLYYYYY! Living Proof came out with a texturizing/volumizing spray. I love their dry shampoo, and it gives such nice volume that I would even find myself spraying it on freshly washed hair just to get that extra oomph. But it isn’t quite the right product for that purpose and the volume wouldn’t last longer than a few hours before going flat again because it is really more for de-greasing the hair. This new volume spray is exactly what I’ve needed in my hair collection. It was developed by scientists and contains expandable, textured aero-spheres that gives your hair amazing volume and texture without weighting it down or making it gunky. I have been bathing in this since I bought it because it just makes my hair a little more bed-heady sexy and gives my curls that effortless messiness that I luuuuurrrrve. If you want good hair, buy this and you won’t look back. It’s the best.
And there you have it, all of my September stand bys and why I love them! Let me know what you guys have been loving so I can check them out and discover new things!
