In the comments section, some of you expressed an interest in knowing my skincare routine, so here it is! My #1 strategy with my skin is KEEP IT SIMPLE. I have never been into anything overly fancy, complicated, and filled with a million ingredients. I like to use natural products when possible and keep my routine easy so when it’s 11 at night and I’m wiped out, I don’t get tempted to skip washing off my makeup because I have a daunting 82 step routine ahead of me. My #2 strategy is DIET. My skin pretty much takes care of itself because I don’t eat crap. Your skin is the body’s largest elimination organ, so if you’re body is producing waste byproducts from digesting chemicals, sugars, and things you are sensitive to (for me it’s dairy and gluten), your skin will suffer. Here is my favorite product lineup that I use everyday:
And this is what I do…
MORNING
I wash my face using the Aveda Botanical Kinetics Purifying Gel Cleanser. I have used this since my freshman year of college and I love it. It’s light, clean, and cuts through oils and makeup. After that, I skip straight to the NARS Aqua Gel Oil-Free Moisturizer which is a godsend because my skin is an oil mine. It doesn’t clog, cause breakouts, or leave a film. That’s it!
EVENING
I wash my face using the Aveda Botanical Kinetics Purifying Gel Cleanser. I make sure to massage the cleanser into my face for at least 2 minutes. This was a great tip I read in a beauty book and when I became conscious of how I was washing my face I realized I was going way too fast and not working the cleanser into my skin long enough to lather. I don’t spend as much time cleansing in the morning because I wake up with a clean face from washing the night before, but in the evening I’ve been wearing makeup all day and need a better cleanse. After that, I spray Jurlique’s Rosewater Balancing Mist on my face. To be honest, I used to only use this because it smells soooo amaze and rosy, but then I ran out and didn’t have it for two weeks and noticed my skin was extra greasy and red around my nose. It’s amazing. After that, I apply the NARS Aqua Gel Oil-Free Moisturizer to my face and neck. Finally, I use Aveda’s Green Science Firming Eye Creme because, well, I’m not 16 anymore and it’s never too early to start preventative measures. I really like this stuff because it’s not heavy but it’s very hydrating and I never have any dryness around the thin skin of my eye area which I am prone to.
ONCE A WEEK
Once a week, I kick things up a notch and use an exfoliating cleanser and a face mask. I usually do this on Sunday so it just happens autopilot and I don’t forget. I am so obsessed with Clinique’s exfoliating scrub. My mom has used this for years and the smell reminds me of getting ready in her bathroom in our old house. It is this menthol eucalyptus scent that is nose clearingly potent and the exfoliating scrubbers are nice and grainy just the way I like them. When I try an exfoliator with gentle “beads” I’m like WTF is this doing for me?? I want to scrub the gunk off. For my mask, I use Astara’s Blue Flame Purification Mask and I apply it after I exfoliate. This is good for oily skin because it is literally like a magnet/sponge. I notice way less blackheads after using it and my skin is this matte, oil free canvas I never see any other time than after using it because it just draws everything out of your pores. It’s magical.
