Hi everyone – Happy Friday!! I’m currently at the airport headed to SF for a fun wellness weekend with some incredible people, but I won’t lie..I’m dragging a bit. Yes, sometimes I drag and when that happens I love nothing more than a delish cup of coffee. I stopped drinking coffee for a while because I sort of lost my taste for it! To give you a little background of my coffee history, I’ve never been in the strong camp that coffee is bad for you and actually think it’s a great source of antioxidants. I also think a little caffeine can actually be a great thing for some people. Note, I said “a little”. I am NOT a fan of guzzling more than 2-3 cups per day until you’re shaking/heart palpitating and I’m SUPER NOT a fan of sugary, syrupy, cow milky, aspartamey “coffee drinks”. I figure, if you’re going to drink coffee, drink it dark, pure, and simple and appreciate the coffee. If you’re going to put 800 pumps of sugary shit in it to make it not taste like coffee, then drink a soda instead. You feel? Anyway, I had a really bad cold around Christmas time 2013, and coffee just tasted SOOO bitter to me while I was sick. This was pretty typical because I also can’t stomach greens, chocolate, or even ginger when I’m sick so I figured it was just the aggressive flavor. I got better, and coffee still tasted terrible to me, almost the way it tastes when you’re a kid and you try your parents for the first time. This was pretty bizarre because I had loved coffee before, but I went with it and didn’t drink coffee again up until recently! I started craving iced coffees as the weather turned a bit warmer last month, so I’ve been loving playing with fun flavor variations and making my own fun creations. I posted this Superfood Latte pic on Instagram a few day ago and you guys went crazy for the recipe, so your wish is my command:
4oz cold brew coffee
8oz unsweetened coconut milk
1 tsp maca
1 tsp black sesame paste
1 tsp ground turmeric
1.5 tsp raw vanilla bean powder
A few drops of vanilla liquid stevia (I use this brand)
Directions: Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender to break up the sesame paste and get the powders evenly combined. Pour over crushed ice and enjoy!!
I do lots of variations of coffee drinks all the time so I’ll share some of my other faves in the coming weeks as I play with different flavors and superfoods!
What’s your favorite way to enjoy coffee?
